Lower Limb Vessels Successfully Treated

Leg veins exist under high hydrostatic venous pressure. Successful laser thermocoagulation requires pulse duration and fluence calibrated to the depth, diameter, and velocity of the target vessel.

1.0mm to 3.0mm Calibre

Blue Reticular "Feeder" Veins

Deeper subdermal blue veins that often act as high-pressure feeding vessels for surface spider networks. The 1064nm long-pulsed Nd:YAG penetrates 3–4mm into the dermis, thermally coagulating deoxyhaemoglobin columns to collapse the feeder without skin breakdown.

Typical Sites: Lateral thigh, popliteal fossa, inner knee.
0.1mm to 1.0mm Calibre

Red & Purple Spider Veins

Superficial telangiectasias presenting as fine webs, starbursts, or arborising branches. Because these vessels are often too narrow or fragile for 30-gauge sclerotherapy needles, precision micro-spot laser pulses deliver clean closure without vessel extravasation.

Typical Sites: Anterior thigh, mid-calf, lower shin.
Delicate Acral Zones

Ankle & Malleolar Clusters

Complex vascular fans around the inner and outer ankle bone (corona phlebectatica). Sclerotherapy in this zone carries increased ulceration risks; transcutaneous Nd:YAG laser provides a non-invasive, needle-free alternative with surface cryo-protection.

Typical Sites: Medial malleolus, lateral ankle, dorsum of foot.

Choosing Your Modality: Laser vs. Sclerotherapy

Dr Brad provides both long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser and liquid microsclerotherapy. During your consultation, we select the protocol best aligned with your anatomy and lifestyle.

⚡ Cynosure Nd:YAG Laser

  • Optimal For: Isolated blue reticular feeders (1–3mm), fine red spider webs, and ankle/foot vessels.
  • Needle-Free: Zero skin puncture wounds; ideal for patients with needle aversion or fragile vessel walls.
  • Lifestyle Freedom: Does not strictly require continuous Class 2 compression hosiery post-treatment.
  • Seasonal Flexibility: Ideal for spring/summer when wearing thick compression garments is uncomfortable.
  • Clearance Process: Vessels darken, clot, and are reabsorbed naturally by immune macrophages over 8–14 weeks.

💉 Microsclerotherapy

  • Optimal For: Dense, confluent arborising networks and extensive feeder networks on the thighs.
  • Mechanism: Liquid sclerosant (Fibrovein) displaces blood to chemically strip the endothelial lining.
  • Compression Requirement: Strict day-and-night compression stockings required for 3 to 14 days post-injection.
  • Consideration: Not suitable for needle-phobic patients or vessels smaller than micro-needle diameters.
  • Synergy: Frequently used in sequenced combination with laser for complex, multi-layer presentations.

Why Palm Units and Time Brackets?
Unlike surface area measuring tapes that penalise larger limb sizes, our Palm Rule (1 Palm Unit ≈ 100 cm²) focuses strictly on actual vascular density and machine time. If your veins clear in 1 or 2 treatments, you conclude your care with no trapped package fees, non-refundable liabilities, or administrative friction.

★ Annual Maintenance Sweep: Existing patients who have completed a full protocol within the preceding 12 months qualify for a flat 20-minute touch-up rate of £225.
