POLYNUCLEOTIDE (NUCLEOFILL) TREATMENT – AFTERCARE GUIDE

Skin Rejuvenation • Eyes • Face • Neck • Décolletage • Hands • Scars • Stretch Marks

Doctor Brad Laser & Cosmetic Clinic – Bristol

Thank you for choosing Nucleofill Polynucleotide treatment.

This guide explains what to expect after your procedure and how to ensure the best results with the lowest risk of side effects.

Please read this carefully and contact the clinic with any concerns.

1. What to Expect After Treatment

It is normal to experience any of the following immediately after your appointment:

  • Small, raised bumps at the injection points

  • Mild redness

  • Light swelling

  • Tenderness

  • Small bruises

  • A feeling of “fullness” or tightness in the skin

  • Mild puffiness under the eyes if treated in this area

These effects are temporary and typically settle within 24–48 hours, although bumps under the eyes may occasionally take up to 72 hours to resolve.

Results develop gradually over several weeks as your skin responds to the regenerative effect of the treatment.

2. Immediate Aftercare (First 12 Hours)

To reduce the risk of irritation or infection:

  • Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area.

  • Do not apply makeup for 12 hours.

  • Avoid applying skincare products unless recommended by the clinic.

  • Keep the area clean and avoid hot water or steam on the face.

3. First 48 Hours

For best results:

  • Avoid alcohol (may increase bruising).

  • Avoid strenuous exercise or anything that increases facial flushing.

  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms and very hot showers.

  • Avoid swimming pools and hot tubs.

  • Avoid facial massage or pressure to the treated area.

  • Sleep slightly elevated if you experience puffiness, especially around the eyes.

  • Use cool compresses if needed for comfort (never ice directly on the skin).

Bruising, if it occurs, may take a few days to fade.

4. First Week

  • Continue gentle skincare only.

  • Avoid exfoliants, acids, retinoids, retinol or strong active products for 7 days.

  • Avoid intense heat (sunbeds, hot yoga, prolonged sun exposure).

  • Do not schedule other injectable treatments for at least one week, unless specifically advised.

  • Mild dryness or tightness may occur as the skin regenerates.

If you have had treatment for scars or stretch marks, you may notice temporary pinkness or sensitivity in the area for several days.

5. Makeup & Skincare

You may use makeup 12 hours after treatment.
Choose gentle, non-comedogenic products.

When resuming skincare after one week:

  • Hydrating serums and moisturisers are encouraged.

  • Retinoids and acids may be restarted gradually.

The clinic may recommend specific serums to support your results.

6. Sun Protection

Daily SPF 30–50 is strongly recommended to protect the skin as it remodels and regenerates.
This is essential after treatment of under-eyes, neck, décolletage, scars and stretch marks.

7. Aftercare When Polynucleotides Are Used Alongside Laser

Your Nucleofill treatment may have been performed:

  • As part of a skin regeneration plan after ablative or non-ablative laser, or

  • To enhance results from Revida Refresh, Renew, Restore, Resurface or Reclaim laser treatments.

In these scenarios:

  • Follow the specific laser aftercare provided to you.

  • Continue to avoid heat, sun and active skincare as instructed.

  • If the skin is recovering from a recent laser procedure, mild additional sensitivity is normal.

  • Contact the clinic if you are unsure when to resume your full skincare routine.

Polynucleotides are often used in combination with laser to enhance recovery and long-term results.

8. Pain, Discomfort or Lumps

Mild tenderness is normal for a few days.

Small bumps under the skin are expected and usually settle within a short time as the product disperses.

Please contact the clinic if you notice:

  • Persistent or increasing swelling after 72 hours

  • Hard or painful lumps

  • Signs of infection (heat, redness, pus, increasing pain)

  • Significant asymmetry

  • Worsening redness or streaks

  • Any symptoms that cause concern

Prompt review is important for best outcomes.

9. Expected Results Timeline

  • Immediately: Skin may look hydrated or slightly pink.

  • 1–2 weeks: Smoother texture, healthier appearance.

  • 4–6 weeks: Increased firmness, brightness and elasticity.

  • 8–12 weeks: Peak collagen improvement and optimal rejuvenation.

Results typically last 6–12 months.

Multiple sessions, usually 2–4 treatments, are recommended for best outcomes.

10. Activities to Avoid After Treatment

To reduce the risk of complications:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure for one week.

  • Avoid sunbeds for two weeks.

  • Avoid facial waxing, peels, microneedling or laser treatments in the treated area for at least one week (unless part of a planned programme).

  • Avoid heavy pressure from goggles, face masks, helmets or massage equipment.

11. When to Seek Medical Advice Urgently

Please contact the clinic or seek urgent medical attention if you experience:

  • Rapidly increasing swelling

  • Intense or escalating pain

  • Blistering

  • Fever or flu-like symptoms

  • Sudden colour change in the skin

  • Signs of spreading infection

These events are rare but require prompt assessment.

12. Future Appointments

Most patients benefit from a course of 2–4 sessions, as advised in your consultation.
Maintenance treatment every 6–12 months helps preserve long-term results.

For combination treatments (such as Nucleofill with CO₂ laser or Revida Reclaim), your follow-up plan will be personalised.
