Scalp Muscle Relaxation for Hair Loss

Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox®) can be used as an adjunctive, non-surgical treatment for hair lossby targeting excessive scalp muscle tension.

Emerging clinical research suggests that chronic tension in the muscles surrounding the scalp may contribute to an unfavourable environment for hair follicles. When these muscles remain persistently tight, they can increase tissue pressure within the scalp, potentially impairing micro-circulation and oxygen delivery to hair follicles.

How the treatment works

In this treatment, small doses of botulinum toxin are carefully injected around the circumference of the scalp, targeting key muscles at the front, sides and back of the head. These muscles anchor the scalp and, when overactive, can place the scalp under constant tension.

By gently relaxing these muscles:

  • Overall scalp tension is reduced

  • Local blood flow may improve

  • Oxygen and nutrient delivery to hair follicles may be optimised

  • The scalp environment becomes more favourable for healthier hair growth

Importantly, the treatment does not involve injections into the top of the scalp itself, where there is little muscle, but instead focuses on the muscles that influence tension across the entire scalp.

What results can I expect?

This treatment is designed to support scalp health and hair preservation, rather than act as a standalone cure for hair loss.

Patients may notice:

  • Reduced scalp tightness or discomfort

  • Reduced excessive scalp oiliness

  • A reduction in hair shedding over time

  • Improvement in hair quality or calibre in some cases

Results vary between individuals, and multiple treatments may be required. Hair regrowth cannot be guaranteed.

Comfort and downtime

Treatment is generally very well tolerated. A topical anaesthetic is used to minimise discomfort, and the procedure typically takes under 30 minutes. There is no significant downtime, and most patients return to normal activities the same day.

Treatment schedule

For best results, treatment is usually performed every 4–6 months, depending on individual response. It can be undertaken alone or alongside other hair loss treatments, including injectable therapies, topical treatments, or Dr Brad’s Hair System Complete.

Doctor-led care

Dr Brad is highly experienced in non-surgical hair loss treatments and personally performs every procedure, ensuring a safe, carefully considered and medically led approach.
