Verruca Removal Laser Treatment with Dr Brad

Advanced Nd:YAG & CO₂ Laser Treatment for Verrucas in Bristol
Verrucas can be stubborn, painful, and frustrating—particularly when they don’t respond to home treatments.
At Doctor Brad’s Clinic, we offer medical laser treatment for suitable verrucas for patients over the age of 16* using advanced laser technology, delivered by a doctor with extensive laser experience.
Our default treatment plan is strongly results-focused (within strict safety limits) as you would expect from a private service, and we can adjust the intensity up or down depending on whether you prioritise speed of clearance or maximum comfort.
* Patients between the age of 16 and 17 must be:
- able to tolerate the associated discomfort of a YAG laser treatment and
- attend with an adult who has legal parental responsibility and who
- is willing to co-sign the consent form.
Co2 laser ablation is only offerred to over-18s.
What is a verruca?
A verruca is a wart caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), most commonly affecting the soles of the feet or toes. Verrucas often grow inward under pressure, can occur singly or in clusters, and may persist for months or years.
Many verrucas eventually resolve on their own.
Laser treatment is considered when they are:
-
Painful
-
Long-standing
-
Resistant to over-the counter creams or old-fashioned freezing/ cryotherapy
-
Affecting walking, sport, psychology or quality of life
How laser treatment works
Laser treatment does not necessarily remove the surface of a verruca.
Depending on the type and size of the lesion, we use laser energy to:
-
Target and damage the blood supply feeding the verruca (Nd:YAG laser), sometimes with secondary verruca ablation or
-
Vaporise the verruca using a CO₂ laser (in selected cases)
By disrupting the vascular support and triggering a local inflammatory response, the body is better able to clear the virus over time.
Nd:YAG laser treatment (first-line for most patients)
For most suitable verrucas, we use a long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser.
This approach:
-
Treats the verruca deeply, often without creating an open wound
-
Allows you to walk out of the clinic afterwards
-
Often requires multiple, staged sessions
-
Is particularly useful for patients who want to avoid vaporisation with the associated wound and downtime
Two treatment styles (you choose):
• Clearance-Focused: higher-effect settings where appropriate to encourage visible change and momentum.
• Comfort-First: gentler settings if you’re pain-sensitive — usually requiring more sessions and higher overall cost.
For safety and a quicker return to normal mobility we deliberately limit how much treatment is delivered to each foot per session. If you have multiple lesions (or a large area), treatment is staged over several visits. This means larger or multiple verrucas are treated gradually over time once the others have settled, rather than excessively in one visit.
Some verrucas respond quickly. Others are more resistant. This is discussed openly before treatment begins.
CO₂ laser excision (selected cases only)
In some situations, a verruca is better treated with complete removal using a CO₂ laser.
This option may be suitable when:
-
The verruca is large, very thick, or exophytic
-
A patient wants instant and visible “removal”
-
The patient understands and accepts:
-
Local anaesthetic injections in the sole of the foot
-
An open wound afterwards
-
Dressings and aftercare
-
A longer healing period
-
CO₂ treatment means full visible removal and maximum of 2 verrucas per foot per session can be performed.
Important expectations
-
Neither of our laser treatments or any other can guarantee clearance of all verrucas
-
Some lesions are resistant despite appropriate treatment although we have very intense settings available that rarely fail to deliver
-
Multiple sessions are often required and attract their own standard PAYG fee.
-
Even verrucas treated with CO2 laser treatment can still require additional sessions of Co2 or YAG laser
-
YAG laser treatment of verrucas does hurt momentarily but is reputed to be less painful and more tolerable than alternative energy-based treatments.
-
Treatment is deliberately limited per session for safety and tolerability.
-
Extensive or complex verruca patterns may be slower to respond
If a condition is unlikely to benefit from laser treatment, this will be explained honestly at consultation but most cases are appropriate for treatment.
